Presto Change-O

 

“Can I change my name when I grow up?”

“Why? Don’t you like you name?”

“No, when I grow up I’m going to change my name to ‘Amazing Meghan’."

 

ROAR!!

 

Saturday we went to see Walking With Dinosaurs.  Meghan and Sean have been waiting for this for months.  My conversations with Sean went something like this:

Sean:  Are we going to see the dinosaurs?

Me: Yes, but not until the summer.

Sean: The summer?

Me: Yes.

Sean:  Do the dinosaurs live in the summer?  Can we go to the summer to see the dinosaurs?

Um yea, that whole seasons of the year thing?  Something he has not grasped yet.

And Meghan?  She just was trying to wrap her little head around all of it.

Meghan: Where are the dinosaurs now?  How are they going to get here?  Where are they going to stay?  And HOW are they still ALIVE!!??

Summer finally arrived and we got to go see the dinosaurs.

They both seemed to enjoy the dinosaurs.  Sean (of course) had to go potty five minutes after the show started.  He could hear the show from the bathroom and he kept saying “We’re missing it! We’re missing it!”

 

It was a little to loud for Sean.  He spent most of the show covering his ears but rarely took his eyes off the action.

Meghan had lots of questions and you could tell she was trying to figure it all out.

Meghan:  It’s a puppet!  I can see the strings!!

 

The T-Rex’s roar almost scared the crap out of Sean.  He jumped a foot off the seat.

I would recommend the show if you have kids who are as obsessed with dinosaurs as mine are.  Most of the descriptions of prehistoric earth and the dinosaurs’ evolution were over their heads, especially Sean.  But he was just happy to see the “Longneck!”, “Sharptooth!”,  “Three-horn!”. Summer

 

Summer’s here.  And now that it has arrived I’d like to make some plans before it zooms past. 

We are skipping the usual trip to Seaside Heights this year.  Which means we will miss out on sharing the boardwalk with these, uh, people.

 

(Not necessarily a bad thing.  Actually, probably a pretty darn good thing.)

We really need to make plans otherwise, we would spend the entire summer doing absolutely nothing.

Planning takes time.  And effort.  And, ugh, decision making.  But I know I’ll feel better when we are done.  Plus, an entire unplanned summer with the two kids would, no doubt, drive me insane.

Here is what we have so far:

Tickets to see Walking with Dinosaurs.

Tickets to the Circus.

Zoo membership

Trip to Cape Cod.

Preschool soccer for Sean

Swim Lessons

One week of Cheer for Meghan

Here is what we still need to plan:

Trips to visit family in Jersey and NY.

Story Land

 

We are also trying to plan a trip for our 10th anniversary this fall.  Away.  Without the kids.  For the first time.  Our last attempt failed.  Also, a possible trip to Disney early next year. 

Planning is exhausting.

The Graduate

 

The PRESCHOOL Graduate, that is.

 

Her school had a little ceremony where the kids sing songs for the parent and then get their “diplomas”.  We took video of the singing but I don’t plan on posting it because Meghan sat there like a deer in headlights the entire time.  She later said that she was a little nervous.  So, singing to a small group of parents freaks her out but performing in front of a large audience, not so much.

I’m not sure what went on at school but she seemed a bit shocked that she graduated.

She has now accepted the fact that Kindergarten awaits at the end of the summer and she cannot wait to start “kindergarten school”. 

 

The Recital - 2010

 

Meghan had her dance recital this past weekend.  At least this time I knew what to expect.  I wish there was a way to do these things without wanting to fall asleep in the middle.   I suppose it is much better for the families of the older kids who have multiple performance throughout the 2+ hour show.  The little kids dance for maybe 3 minutes. 

While Meghan was not dancing we heard this from Sean:

“Is that Meghan?”

“Where is Meghan?”

“Is Meghan hiding?”

“I have to go potty!  Is there a potty in here, Mommy?”

Enter the iPhone and a pair of headphones to the rescue.  He was occupied for the remainder of the show.

Meghan did great.  I believe she was the only girl in the class who went through this last year.  She was up there directing those who had lost their way (or were crowding her).  It was all very cute.

No video was allows at the recital but I did record the rehearsal.

 

Last year’s pictures turned out so cute that I am hoping to get more done this year.   The few I did take were a bit….off.

 

But I managed to get at least one cute one.

I’ve gotten out of the practice of updating this thing.  We have a lot planned in the next few weeks and I hope to post about it all.
