Pre-Vacation Chaos

Alternate Title: My Brain, It is Mush.

We are once again headed to the Jersey shore And I have, once again, left a lot to be done the last week.  I’ve been rescheduling missed doctor’s appointments and missed speech therapy sessions.  The storage place needs to be renewed.  The recycling needs to be returned.  A trip to the bank must be made to get check for rental place.  Not to mention all the packing.  And all the laundry that must be done first so that we have something to pack.

I’m pretty sure my brain is already shutting down because I have been running these lists through it non-stop.  So far I managed to blank on my on doctor appointment, forgot to return frozen chickens to freezer after searching for something else, and, just now, I put the wrong detergent into our HE washing machine.  When I look through the window all I see is suds.  I’m wondering how many times I’ll need to run it empty before I can put more clothes in there.

The worst, however, was when I realized that one of the things I lost when my laptop went kaput was my life-saving packing list.  I’ve used it for years.  I had a tab for the shore and a tab for the resort.  It listed everything from sheets to sippy cups.  Now I must recreate it and I’m sure we will forget something.

Off to assess the damage I did to the washer….

Kiddy Pool 2.0

I got the new pool up and filled last last week and we have been using it every chance we get.  Who knows how long it will be before the summer weather disappears again.

It may have been a bit too cold when I first put the kids in.  It doesn’t phase Meghan much.  But Sean……

After voicing his displeasure…..

he got used to it and played with his sister.

Sean starts shivering eventually.  He never seems to last longer than 20 minutes or so.  Then he starts asking for a “paper towel”.

Meghan, on the other hand, could play for hours.  Ryan and I could barely stand in the water yesterday afternoon but she was swimming around like it was a heated pool.  She didn’t even look the least bit cold.

Summer? Is that you?

After weeks and weeks and weeks and omgimgoinginsane weeks of rainy cold weather, we finally have had a few summer-like days.  Finally.  Mid-July.

Food has been grilled.  The patio set has been used.  And popsicles have been consumed outside.  Yesterday I even blew up the kids pool.

Wednesday mornings are busy so I didn’t get to blow up the pool until noon-ish.  And then it had to be cleaned.  And then it had to be filled with water.  And as it was filling I noticed that it could probably use more air so I added more.  And it was still filling with water.  Freezing cold water straight from the hose.

The pool was finally ready around maybe 2-2:30 PM.  Meghan dumped all her pool toys in and jumped in.  And immediately jumped out.  Can’t say I blame her.  It was chilly.  She was happy to walk around the outside and play with her toys.  She did jump in one more time before we called it a day but never got anything above her knees wet.

Later I noticed that the pool seemed to be squishing down on one side.  All the water had started to leak out.  *SIGH*  We have a hole.  Somewhere.  The pool lasted us at least two summers so I’m not going to complain too much.

Today we headed out to get a new pool.  I was surprised to find a ton or them at Walmart.  I suppose there has no reason for anyone to buy one before now.

It’s raining here (again) today but tomorrow’s plan is to get the new pool up and ready.  Summer better stick around for awhile.

I’m only running about a month behind

I have a list of things I need to do.  Things like find a new dentist or sort through Sean’s clothes to find what it too small or shampoo carpet.  I’m not sure when I’ll get to those and the other things listed there.  However, I able to cross one thing off today.  I finally took Meghan to get her picture taken in her recital costume.

I was a bit worried about how they would turn out.  The photographer kept trying to get her to stand in one of her dance poses.  Two problems with this:  (1) Meghan cannot remember any so I had to try and think of some and (2) she does not have enough balance to stay in any “pose” long enough to get a good picture.  However, they were able to capture some really cute pictures.
