Disney on Ice

Last week was school vacation week and Ryan took the week off from work.  We were trying to figure out what to do with the kids for the week.  Then I found out I won tickets to Disney On Ice Presents Worlds of Fantasy from BostonMamas.   Perfect!  And the timing was great.

This is the first ice show the kids have been too.  And I think it also may be the first time they have been to the Garden.  We don't go into Boston all that often so trying to figure out where we need to be and the bast place to park is always a bit stressful.  But, other than missing about a minute of the show, it all worked out great.

The kids loved it.  Sean sat still and watched pretty much the entire show.  They got to see Cars, the Lion King, Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy, Tinkerbell and the Little Mermaid.  And, of course, they came home with souvenirs from the show.

I was impressed with the show.  I loved the costumes, especially for the Lion King portion of the show.  The way they made it look like there were herds of animals on the ice was really beautiful.

One mistake I made was waiting until intermission to take Meghan to the bathroom.  HOLY LINE, BATMAN!  It was looping around itself it was so long.  And it was all mothers with at least one child at their side.  Meanwhile, the men were zipping in and out of their bathroom.

Here are some pictures from the show.  (Note:  This was the first time using my new camera for this type of event so some pictures are not great.  I was playing with the whole flash vs. no flash thing.)

Intervention

A little over a week ago a group of women came to the house to evaluate Sean for the state's Early Intervention program.  I called them about 2 months ago because Sean's speech did not seem to be developing beyond a few Momma's, Da Da's and baabaa's.  I was not overly concerned because he obviously understands everything we say and seems to be on track everywhere else.

They showed up with a pile of paperwork and a bag of toys (at nap time, ugh).  Sean did great.  He interacted with them.  Completed their puzzles.  Followed their requests.  But, he said nothing.  Well, that's not entirely true.  He said "shoe" once as they were finishing up.  Before they even added up his score they said he would definitely qualify for his expressive speech.  The scores for every other category were above age level but his speech showed him almost 10 months behind.

I'm glad he qualified.  I was afraid he would just miss the cutoff.  Now, I know he can say more than he did during that session.  However, Ryan and I are the only ones who can understand these words because we know what he is trying to say.  I am now waiting for our contact to call so we can start to plan his sessions.

Finished A Book: "Fearless Fourteen"

Fearless Fourteen (Stephanie Plum, No. 14) by Janet Evanovich.

Okay, so technically I finished this book a few weeks ago.  But, this is the first chance I had to pot about it.  And since it has been a few weeks this is going to be a pretty lame review because I am not able to remember what I had for lunch yesterday, much less a book I finished days and days ago.

I thought this book was just as good as the others in this series.  I enjoyed it much more that I did the "between the numbers novel" because this one seemed to move the character's story along a bit.

If you are a fan of the Stephanie Plum novels than you definitely need to read this.  If you are not familiar with them then run out and get yourself the first one.  I dare you not to laugh out loud like a crazy person while reading.

Here, have some bullets.

Posting has been a bit, um, sparse lately.  It seems like between making sure everyone is clothed and fed and trying to find our living room floor once a week I have little time to update.  Plus, I like my posts better if they have pictures.  And then my camera died.  But I got a new one.  Except it took a week longer for the memory card to arrive in the mail.  I finally got it yesterday so now I just need to take some pictures.

Let's see, what has happened recently....

  • I got to go out to eat without any kids.  That's unusual.  Of course I fell in the parking lot on my way in.  Before I even had anything to drink.  I blame a slush filled pot-hole.  I have a few bruises and very dirty pants but no real damage was done.  Then I got to eat enchiladas and drink a margarita the size of my head.  So it was all worth it.
  • Meghan and Sean had their first dentist visit yesterday.  Everyone did much better than I expected.  No cavities and no tears.  I consider that a success.
  • I only spent about $50 at the grocery store this week and I am pretty sure we have enough food to survive until next week.
  • I won tickets to see Disney on Ice from BostonMamas.com.

I hope to be back soon, with pictures.

I think I may need to read the manual.

Things just keep breaking around here. I mentioned our appliance failures in an earlier post. After that our camera dies. But, that was replaced rather quickly.

The big purchase was the washer and dryer. The washer and dryer I had been using came with the house. I have no idea how old they were. I would often refer the the washer as a ghetto washer. Why? Let me show you.

Looks good from this angle right? Well, now take a closer look at the washer options.

That's everything. My options were:

Big load or Small load

Long wash or short wash.

No water temperature options. No delicate option. Nothing. Basically it was throw everything in and turn it on.

Now I am at the other extreme.

Just look at all the options. The buttons. The lights. Ooh, pretty!

I am now trying to figure out how to do laundry all over again.

Our camera died at just the right time

Our camera started taking pictures that looked like this.
