Can't argue with that.

Meghan was hanging off my lap when I noticed her underwear was on backwards.

Me: "Meghan, your underwear is on backwards"

Meghan: "No it's not. I just upside down"

Today Sean is one

I can hardly believe it. It seems like this year went very fast. And yet, a lot happened in the past year.

He still seems so little. Maybe that is because we spent 2 months trying to figure out why he was not gaining weight. He was 3 months when he had his surgery. Or, maybe it is because he still only wants to eat baby food and wants nothing to do with table food. Or maybe it is just because I have his sister to compare him to.

Sean is a little loverboy. Always giving giving hugs and kisses. He follows his sister around. Chases (and once caught) the cat. Loves to play on the piano and dances to music.

We will be celebrating his Birthday on Saturday with just a small party. I need to try a recipe for dairy-free cupcakes so he will have something special ti try (although based on recent exposure to food he will probably just throw it back up).

Tomorrow is his 1 year checkup. I'll post another update afterwards.

Happy Birthday Sean!!!!!

$25 a pop

We were at the pediatrician's office...again. I think I have been there at least once a week since the start of the year. I've spent a small fortune in copay. Yippee.

Yesterday's visit was for Meghan. Her little hernia popped out again. The doctor this time agreed with the last one and is referring us to a pediatric surgeon. We are just waiting for them to set up an appointment. Apparently it is not an emergency because it goes back inside itself. We were told that if it does not retreat back and sticks out it is an emergency. So we are on hernia watch.

And, I know for a fact that we are not done with the doctor visits for the week. Sean has his one year check up on Friday. That's right. He turns one this week (Thursday to be exact). I can hardly believe it.

I'll hopefully be back with pictures soon. I have not taken any since our trip. I think my camera may still be packed in a bag somewhere.....

When will it end?

It seems as though someone has been sick this entire year so far. I don't think I have been in the office for one full week. Every week there is at least one day where I am trying to work from home or just took the day off. This week I was in the office a total of 1.5 days.

If it is not one of the kids sick, it is one of us. I feel like I am finally over a cold that I've had since before Christmas. I was hoping that our trip to Turks & Caicos would kill all the nasty germs. What with the shiny, happy, warm sunshine and all. No luck. And we have had all sorts of sickness. Snot, cough, aches pains, sneezes, headaches, upchuckiness and what Meghan likes to call "broken poopies". It is the last two that plague us now. Why, oh why do they always have to puke in the car (my car)?

So here I am, home again. I am not going to complain too loudly because it is snowing, again. I'd rather not drive in the snow. So here I am, cursing the slow connection, trying to get work done, and trying to catch up on all the messy, nasty laundry that the sickness has created.

Oh, and yeah, Meghan might have a hernia. Wonderful.

Turks & Caicos 2008

We had an incredible time in Turks & Caicos last week.

We had a direct flight down there (very important) and arrived around 3PM. (I wish I took a picture of the amount of luggage we had to bring. I refuse to do the laundry so I always over pack for the kids. Who knows how many times they will spit-up/leak/drop food/spill drink all over their clothes.) Even though I tried to drug them (Benedryl), both children were awake almost the entire trip down. They both fell asleep about 30 minutes before we landed.

We stayed at the Beaches resort again this time. Our room was great. We had a separate bedroom and 2 (!) balconies overlooking one of the pools and an oceanview. The weather was great all week. I think it may have rained once for like 30 seconds. I thought I was getting splashed with water from the pool.

View from one of our balconies.

Meghan and Sean were really good all week. But, they really are different. We went to Turks & Caicos about 2 years ago when Meghan was a few month older than Sean is now. She was really good about sleeping in her stroller poolside or at the beach in the morning. But, she hated the sand. Wanted nothing to do with it. We even had to convince her to walk in it this time. Sean was just the opposite. He did not nap well at all. I don't know if there was too much going on or if he was just uncomfortable. We could get him to sleep a few times by placing him on our chest but that was it. As for the sand, he loved it. He was sitting right down in it, playing with the shovel, crawling around. No complaints. He even took off at one point, made a bee-line for the water. I caught up with him just as he got to the ocean's edge.

Sean headed for the water.

They both enjoyed the Sesame Street shows and the parade. Meghan liked her Sesame characters when they stayed a safe distance away. Sean was not afraid at all.

Is Ernie trying to eat my son's head?

There were some minor complications. The whole Sean not napping thing made some dinners a bit rough. We skipped the restaurants one night and just brought sushi back to the room. Another night Sean slept on us while we ate. And it's not like we ate late. We headed out for dinner when the places opened at 6PM.

And then there was Meghan. She does not like the milk there so she drank apple juice the whole week. Buy the time Wednesday rolled around she started having.....issues. Thankfully I had some pull-ups with me. It was nasty. The worst was the plane ride home. I thought I smelled something so I checked Sean. Nope, not him. There were a bunch of kids around us so I figured it was one of them since I had just returned from the bathroom with Meghan. A few minutes later I checked her anyway. Ick!!!! I got her out of the seat, grabbed a pull-up and the wipes and headed for the bathroom. Just as I stood her up on the toilet seat cover to begin the cleaning I heard the "ding". Seatbelt sign turned on. Turbulence. Wonderful. So we were bouncing around the itty-bitty airplane bathroom as I tried to clean her up. I think I said "Don't touch" about 150 times. Didn't matter. She got poop everywhere. And the smell, oh my Lord. I thought I was going to pass out. Or puke. Or both. After I cleaned her up (and what I could find of her poop on the many surfaces of the bathroom) we headed back to our seats. She had no pants at this time, just a pull-up. I had no pants for her. Just her damp shorts from earlier in the day. Better than nothing right. At least the next time she told me she had to go. We arrived in the bathroom just as the captain said "Flight attendant, please prepare for arrival".

I'm sure there are many more stories I could post about the trip but my brain cannot focus on that right now. I'm still not fully functional after all the eating, drinking and general laziness I experienced last week. So, if you would like to see more now, check out the pictures here:

Were are back

We have returned from our incredible vacation in Turks & Caicos. It was in the 80s there every day. It feels like -80 here today.

I am going to write a summary post soon.

Here is a preview.
